The Monday Okpehbholo Media Team, MOMET, has expressed confidence that the Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal which has commenced sitting will ensure justice and equity in the electoral process that gave victory to Senator Monday Okpebholo as governor.
In a statement signed by its Coordinator and Secretary respectively, Mr Victor Ofure Osehobo and Hon. Desmond Ugbo, the group said the tribunal demonstrated its commitment to due process by addressing the 7 petitions before it, and adjourning proceedings to January 15, 2025, at the formal request of counsel for the respondents.
According to the group the cases under scrutiny, including Accord Party vs. INEC, Okpebholo, and APC and PDP and Ighodalo vs. INEC, Okpebholo, and APC, showcase the vibrant exercise of democratic rights by aggrieved parties. “The tribunal’s willingness to accommodate the request for adjournment, despite the timing and concerns raised by the petitioners, underscores its dedication to fairness and judicial propriety”.
It added, “Notably, the tribunal balanced the competing interests by ensuring that all parties were duly informed of the adjournment while emphasizing the importance of cooperation. The petitioners’ counsel, while prepared to commence trial, showed commendable professionalism by conceding to the request in the interest of justice and equity”.
“This adjustment further highlights the tribunal’s effort to maintain an atmosphere of decorum, transparency, and procedural integrity. By rescheduling proceedings to allow all parties adequate representation, the tribunal reaffirms its role as a beacon of hope for all seeking justice”.
As the tribunal resumes hearings on January 15, 2025, the group expressed confidence that the tribunal will continue to uphold the sanctity of the judicial process.
