The Mayor of Brampton, Canada, Patrick Brown, has described the 8th Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit (NDIS) as a key platform for strengthening economic ties between Nigeria and it’s global diaspora community.
In a congratulatory message delivered at the summit, he commended the initiative for its commitment to fostering investment, innovation, and strategic collaboration.
Mayor Brown, who was unavoidably absent due to pressing commitments in Brampton, appointed the city’s Business Ambassador, Mr. Akin Oduntan, to represent him and the City of Brampton at the summit.
“Although I am unable to attend in person, it gives me great pleasure to send my trusted friend and our Business Ambassador, Mr. Akin Oduntan, to represent our city at this important gathering,” he stated.
He explained that Mr. Oduntan had been tasked with conveying Brampton’s renewed interest in deeper partnerships with Nigeria and exploring new economic opportunities.
According to the Mayor, the summit presents a unique opportunity to strengthen existing relationships and discuss avenues for future collaboration between Nigeria and the City of Brampton.
Mayor Brown also expressed his admiration for Nigeria and its people, noting that his previous visits to the country had left a lasting impression.
“I have visited Nigeria twice and have truly fallen in love with the country. The vibrant Nigerian community in Brampton is a source of pride for us, and together we can continue building bridges between our great nations.”
Oduntan further expressed the Mayor’s optimism about engaging more closely with Nigerian leaders and stakeholders.
He reaffirmed Brampton’s commitment to supporting shared efforts aimed at achieving greater economic growth and community development for both sides. “I look forward to meeting with key personalities in the near future as we expand our collaborative efforts,” he added.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of a special scroll to the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, on behalf of Mayor Patrick Brown.
Also, Ambassador Akin Oduntan had a courtesy visit to the Canadian Deputy High Commissioner Carlos Rojas-Arbulu and their discussion was on Canada-Nigeria Trade & Business prospects to strengthen bilateral relations between Canada and Nigeria.
