The Warri Kingdom of Delta State witnessed a momentous cultural and traditional ceremony as His Majesty, Ògíamẹ̀ Atúwàtse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, presided over the installation of new Ojoye (Chiefs) during the 16th edition of Ghigho Aghofen the ceremonial Change of Palace Watch.
The historic event, held at the Aghòfen (Palace), drew an array of distinguished personalities, including Royal Fathers, government officials, traditional rulers, and sons and daughters of the Warri Kingdom from within and outside the country.
Chieftaincy conferments were carried out in two phases. In the first phase, outstanding sons of Iwere land were elevated to the rank of Ojoye in recognition of their service and commitment to the kingdom.
Those conferred include, Ojoye Okpeyor John Daje, Ogidinagba ti Warri, Ojoye Yomere Sony Akpasire ti Warri, Ojoye Reyeneju Daniel – Ojogun ti Warri and Ojoye Mone Mayomi ,Ugboleghe ti Warri
The second phase featured the induction of a new cadre of Ambassage Chiefs distinguished individuals from non-Itsekiri communities who reside in Warri and have contributed significantly to its growth and development.
Those honoured include: Ojoye Anthony Akoji , Arun Igala ti Warri, Ojoye Oluwasoji Akinwale, Arun Oroke ti Warri and Ojoye Clauduis Ugbo, Udo-mereyon ti Warri.
Others are Ojoye Ezekiel Oyetakin – Arun Ilaje ti Warri, Ojoye Steven Amalili Arun Otsowo ti Warri, and Ojoye Okwudili Ugochukwu, Arun Igbo ti Warri
Following the chieftaincy installations, His Majesty formally received the Olobe Community as it assumed its quarter of Palace Watch at the Aghòfen.
The transition was marked by colourful and vibrant cultural displays from both the outgoing and incoming communities, alongside performances by their respective Ojoyes.
The celebration, coming during the Christmas season, was further enriched by goodwill messages from His Majesty Ògíamẹ̀ Atúwàtse III, CFR, and Her Majesty, Olori Atuwatse III, who extended warm greetings and best wishes to all sons and daughters of Iwere land at home and in the diaspora.
They prayed for peace, renewed hope, love, and abundant blessings for every household during the festive season and beyond.
