The Executive Director of the Initiative for Youth Awareness on Migration, Immigration, Development and Reintegration (IYAMIDR), Mr. Solomon Okoduwa, has commended Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, for what he described as a determined and practical approach to governance aimed at transforming the state into a model for others in Nigeria.

Okoduwa said the governor’s development drive, anchored on infrastructure renewal, strengthened security architecture and human capital development, demonstrates a clear commitment to building a modern state capable of competing with leading subnational governments across the country.

According to him, the administration’s aggressive investment in road construction and other legacy infrastructure projects is already positioning Edo State for economic expansion and improved connectivity between rural communities and urban centres.

He particularly hailed the decision of the governor to equip the 18 local government councils with 54 pieces of construction equipment, describing the initiative as a major intervention that will accelerate grassroots development and open up access roads across the state.

“The governor’s action shows a practical understanding of governance. By empowering the local governments with the necessary equipment, he is ensuring that communities are not left behind in the development process,”

He noted that the deployment of the equipment, alongside the engagement of reputable construction firms, would guarantee faster delivery of projects while maintaining quality standards in the execution of road and other infrastructure works.

Okoduwa further commended the administration for strengthening the State Rapid Response Agency with both light and heavy-duty equipment, noting that the move would significantly enhance the state’s emergency response capability and support security agencies in addressing emerging threats.

He said the step would also boost public confidence in the state’s security framework and contribute to a stable environment required for investment and economic growth.

The IYAMIDR director also praised Governor Okpebholo’s “SHINE Agenda,” which focuses on job creation, skills development and social welfare programmes designed to empower residents and stimulate productivity across sectors of the state’s economy.

According to him, the governor’s visible projects and inclusive governance style have resonated with many residents who see the administration as committed to delivering tangible results.

Okoduwa expressed optimism that if the current pace of development is sustained, Edo State could emerge as a benchmark for effective governance not only in the South-South region but across Nigeria.
