Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the nomination of a prominent Igbo businessman and community leader, Mr. Martin Anayochukwu Oli, as a Commissioner-designate in the state, in a move seen as reinforcing his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.
The appointment, contained in a letter dated June 24, 2026, was announced by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor, who said the nomination would be forwarded to the Edo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation.
Announcing the development, Ikhilor stated: “The Edo State Government wishes to inform the general public that the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the nomination of Mr. Martin Anayochukwu Oli as a Commissioner-designate for Edo State.”
The SSG described Oli as an accomplished businessman and politician from Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State, noting that he is widely respected for his contributions to grassroots and community development.
According to Ikhilor, “Mr. Oli is widely recognized for his commitment to community and grassroots development, having contributed significantly to initiatives aimed at promoting social and economic progress.”
He added that the commissioner-designate has distinguished himself in the private sector through exceptional entrepreneurial leadership while championing development-oriented causes, earning recognition as a respected leader of the Igbo community in Edo State and an advocate of sustainable development.
Ikhilor further emphasized that the appointment reflects Governor Okpebholo’s resolve to build an inclusive government that accommodates all residents contributing to the growth of the state.
“The nomination of Mr. Oli underscores Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to fostering inclusiveness, unity and broad-based participation in governance, while harnessing the expertise and contributions of individuals committed to the development of Edo State,” the SSG said.
He disclosed that the nominee’s name would be transmitted to the Edo State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and confirmation.
