The Governor Monday Okpeholo led administration in Edo state through the Edo State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (EDSPHCDA), has encouraged nursing mothers on the benefits of breast feeding while raising awareness on the practice.

The Health agency stated while joining global community in the 2025 World breastfeeding week slated between 1st to 7th August, 2025.

The event with the theme “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems”, had stakeholders from the healthcare sector in attendance.

Dr. Coulson Osoikhia, the Executive Secretary EDSPHCDA, was represented by the Director, Community and Family Health Services EDSPHCDA. Dr. Idemudia Osayomore harped on  the importance of breastfeeding and noted that breast milk contains essential nutrients that protect a baby’s immune system.

He emphasized that babies who are exclusively breastfed are healthier compared to those who are not, and that breastfeeding also reduces the cost of buying formula milk, which, despite being fortified, cannot compare to the benefits of breast milk.

Medical Officer, Oredo local government area Dr. Ehimwenma Usiosefe,  encouraged attendees  to embrace the health benefits of breastfeeding and support mothers in exclusively breastfeeding their babies.
