Akhator Samuel Osasunmhen, popularly known as MC Abino, has narrated a compelling story of struggle, perseverance and eventual triumph in Nigeria’s comedy industry.
A graduate of Biochemistry (HND) from the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, MC Abino revealed that his academic journey and life after school were far from easy.
Despite performing comedy while in school, he faced severe setbacks after graduating in 2016, including months of job hunting in Lagos and settling for a ₦30,000 monthly salary after failed attempts to secure better opportunities, including bank jobs.
According to the comedian, frustration with the corporate space pushed him to fully embrace comedy and leverage social media as a growth tool.
Having been in comedy since 2009 and mentored by MC Mellow Down, MC Abino said his turning point came in 2015 when MC Casino introduced him to a client who paid him ₦150,000 for a performance.
“That single engagement opened doors to higher-paying gigs and marked the beginning of consistent financial success for me in the entertainment industry.
“Comedy has transformed my life and taken me out of the shore of this Country. Plan are also underway for the upcoming Europe tour for MC Casino “Games of Jokes”. I built my house, married and brought my cars from comedy. I also earn from my social media handles.
Today, MC Abino is enjoying the rewards of years of hard work and resilience. Comedy, he said, has completely transformed his life, enabling him to build his first multimillion-naira Bungalow, buy cars, get married, and support his family financially.
His career has also taken him beyond Nigeria’s borders, with plans underway for a Europe tour as part of MC Casino’s “Games of Jokes”.
In addition to live performances, he earns steadily from his social media platforms, further solidifying his financial independence.
Sharing advice for young Nigerians, MC Abino urged youths to learn how to monetize their talents, stressing that social media remains one of the most powerful tools for visibility and income generation.
He recalled advising a young boy who could skillfully balance a football on his head over long distances, teaching him how to take the act online and turn it into a source of income.
Reflecting on his own past riding okada and working as an undertaker while in school, MC Abino emphasized that talent, when properly packaged and promoted online, can change lives.
