In a society where loud is wow and bland is best , the Naija Poetry Fest and the Benin Writers’ Society have come to disrupt the bandwagon by pushing the narrative of deep thinking and circumspective muses on our Society to be depicted in poems and spoken word .Thus will be done in a programme tagged “The Battle of Stanzas” holding on the 30th of August,2025 , from 10am to 3pm at the Edo Creative Hub on Airport Road Benin City .
Our society is plagued with many shenanigans , but the youth are mostly lost in the lust for happiness, found in football, lounges, parties, and musical shows .
There is something missing in our society, which has been passed to us from generation to generation. That is the mystery of poetry and depth of the messages that come with poetry. Poets are the conscience of society.
Writers and Poets are endangered species, about going extinct, if not for the efforts of a few like Wale Okediran of PAWA, Oribhabor Oriata of Poets in Nigeria (PIN) ,,Godson Osarenren of Naija Poetey Fest , Douglas Ogbankwa Esq., of the Benin Writers ‘ Society and others .
The Benin Writers Society and Naija Poetry Fest collaborate in this programme to organise “The Battle of Stanzas,” a convergence of literary minds to to re-ignite the reading and writing culture in Benin City and Edo State .The programme also strives to reintroduce the literary clubs and press clubs in our schools .
You are invited to the Battle of Stanzas on Saturday 30th August 2025, by 10am. to 3pm. at the Edo Creatuve Hub (former Observer Newspapers Building ).
It is a movement for a renaissance of the Poetry, Reading and Writing Culture in Benin City and Edo State .Let us support this laudable project and attend this ceremony to push for a new era in the literary word in our society.
