The Pan African Writers’ Association (PAWA) , the apex literary body for writers across the African continent has officially given its imprimatur to the much-anticipated Nigerian mini literary festival, Battle of Stanzas. In the same breath, PAWA has extended its endorsement to the first-ever poetry anthology from Benin City, titled Stanzas from the Bronze Capital.
Dr. Wale Okediran, the newly re-elected Secretary General of PAWA, lauded the organisers — Naija Poetry First led by Godson Osarenren, and the Benin Writers’ Society led by Douglas Ogbankwa Esq. — for their trailblazing commitment to expanding the frontiers of poetry in Nigeria. He commended their dedication to creating platforms that inspire, nurture, and showcase Africa’s vibrant literary voices.
The Battle of Stanzas is set to take place in the heart of Benin City, Edo State, on Saturday, 30th August 2025, at the Edo Innovation Hub, Airport Road, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
This landmark event promises to gather the best of the best in Nigerian poetry and spoken word — a creative convergence that will ignite new energy and open an exciting chapter in the nation’s poetic journey.
With PAWA’s continental endorsement, Battle of Stanzas is more than an event; it is a historic celebration of African literature, culture, and the enduring power of words.
