Ahead of the 2027 governorship election, the Nasarawa State chapter of the Labour Party has affirmed a top chieftain of the party from the Western Senatorial District of the state, Ibrahim Afaka Azamu as its governorship candidate through a consensus mode of primaries.
The party also affirmed Shehu Reuben Peter as its senatorial candidate for Nasarawa West, Micha Hussaini for Nasarawa North, and Livinus Auta Ezhim for Nasarawa South senatorial districts.
The State Chairman of the Labour Party, Alexander Ombugu made the disclosure on Sunday in Lafia, the state capital while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the party primaries which was held across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.
He added that for the Federal House of Representatives, Ede Osu emerged as LP candidate for Nasarawa/Toto; Iliya Gambo Timidige for Keffi/Karu/Kokona; Emmanuel Sarwuna for Awe/Doma/Keana; and Alex Emmanuel Ombugu for Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba federal constituencies.
According to him, during the Labour Party primaries which was peacefully conducted on Saturday across the state, the candidates emerged unopposed following efforts by the party to ensuring a rancour-free process.
Ombugu explained further that after the primaries, the candidates were duly affirmed and certified by a majority of the Labour Party stakeholders in line with the electoral act , and the party’s electoral guidelines, ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said, “The primary election of the Labour Party also produced candidates for the various constituencies of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly who will represent the party during the 2027 general elections.
“Having satisfied all constitutional and procedural requirements, all the aspirants who contested unopposed were declared winners and duly returned elected as the Labour Party candidates for the respective elective positions” Ombugu said.
He commended all the members, aspirants, stakeholders, and party officials who participated in the process, noting that their cooperation, discipline, and readiness to follow laid-down procedures ensured a smoothly conducted exercise across the state.
Ombugu said with the primary election processes completed, the Labour Party has now entered a new phase of preparation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He added, “This is the time for unity, discipline, and collective focus as the party mobilises supporters across communities and strengthens its grassroots reach.
“The Labour Party in Nasarawa State is moving forward with renewed energy and determination. We assure the public that the party will remain focused on inclusive engagement, effective mobilisation, and sustained campaign for positive change.
“As the party advances, we call on all members and supporters to remain steadfast, avoid distractions, and support the party’s standard bearers wholeheartedly.”
In an interview, the Labour Party governorship candidate for Nasarawa State, Ibrahim Afaka Azamu who is an indigene of Nasarawa LGA of the state, expressed his gratitude to the stakeholders and members of the party for giving him the opportunity to emerge as the party’s flag bearer ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He promised to work hard to tackle insecurity, unemployment, dilapidated infrastructures, among others if he emerges victorious during the 2027 polls.
“This victory is not just for me. It is for the entire people of Nasarawa State. This is because if I emerge as Governor in 2027, we will all work together to take Nasarawa State to greater heights,” he added.
