Preparations for the fifth coronation anniversary of Ogiame Atuwatse III have gathered momentum with the announcement of a special golf tournament expected to attract about 50 golfers from across Nigeria as part of activities lined up to celebrate the monarch’s five years on the throne.
Chairman of CanaanLand Golf & Country Club, Koko, Delta State, Hon. Felix Aganbi, disclosed on Friday that the Special Kitty Golf Tournament will hold on Saturday, August 8, 2026, as one of the major events marking the anniversary.
He said the competition, organised in collaboration with Riva Golf, would bring together professional and amateur golfers, traditional leaders and other dignitaries.
Aganbi said the tournament is intended to honour the Olu of Warri’s leadership and contributions to peace, unity and development in the Warri Kingdom.
He added that about 50 golfers have confirmed participation in the competition, with a total prize purse of ₦1 million to be presented to outstanding performers at the end of the event.
“This tournament is one of the activities put together to celebrate His Majesty’s fifth coronation anniversary. It is an opportunity for people from different backgrounds to identify with the King’s vision and join in commemorating the milestone.
“We are expecting golfers from different parts of the country for what promises to be a memorable competition. The presentation of prizes will take place at the Christiana Aganbi Smart Hall immediately after the tournament,” Aganbi stated.
Among golfers expected at the event are Lady Captain Lucky Apkeiyi, Princewill Cosmas, Stephen Akpomiemie Asagba, Dr. Monica Obaedo, Lt. Col. Emmanuel Umoru, Dr. Austin Okogun, Tony Uduimo, Felix Aganbi, Prince Igbinosa and several others representing different golf clubs across the country.
Aganbi further disclosed that the tournament forms part of the wider Bini Riva Festival, an annual cultural celebration that attracts visitors to Koko and features fishing, arts, traditional games and communal feasting.
He expressed optimism that this year’s edition would further promote tourism and cultural heritage in Delta State.
Ogiame Atuwatse III, the 21st Olu of Warri, ascended the throne in August 2021 and has since been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at promoting peace, cultural renaissance and socio-economic development within the Iwere (Warri) Kingdom.
The anniversary celebration is expected to draw prominent personalities from across the country.
