The Edo State Government has launched a scathing attack on Samson Isibor, dismissing him as a self-serving figure presiding over what it described as a “non-existent” and “amorphous” organization.
The State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, in a strongly worded reaction, accused Isibor who claims to be National Chairman of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) of running a “jeun-jeun” or “chop-chop” outfit for nearly two decades without meaningful political impact.
Afegbua’s remarks followed a statement by Isibor calling for the resignation of Governor Monday Okpebholo over alleged failure to address rising hardship and cost of living in the state.
“A Perpetual Chairman of Nothing”
Afegbua did not hold back in his criticism, questioning both the legitimacy of the CRPP under Isibor and his long-standing leadership.
“Dr. Samson Isibor has remained a perpetual chairman of an organisation that, in reality, does not exist. It is an amorphous, ‘chop-chop’ platform he has personalized for selfish gains over the past eighteen years,” Afegbua said.
“Rather than contribute meaningfully to political inclusion and democratic growth, he has chosen to entrench himself in a structure defined by parochialism and self-perpetuation.”
The Commissioner, however, strongly defended Governor Okpebholo, insisting that the administration has made significant strides in development and governance.
“Governor Monday Okpebholo has transformed Edo into a massive construction site, with critical infrastructure taking centre stage in our development agenda,” Afegbua stated.
“We are building roads, hospitals, and schools, while investing heavily in human capital development. We have recruited teachers and civil servants, supported market women with interest-free loans, and reintroduced bursary awards after a long hiatus.”
“We have revived Ambrose Alli University, injected funds into Edo University, Iyamho, developed infrastructure around Usen Polytechnic, and cleared outstanding salaries and arrears owed to lecturers at Ekiadolor College of Education.”
“Security, Economy Top Priority”
Afegbua also pointed to efforts in strengthening security and boosting the economy.
“This administration has made significant investments in security, including the provision of over 100 Hilux vehicles to security agencies. We are deliberately and strategically repositioning Edo’s economy for sustainable growth.”
Dismissing the call for the governor’s resignation, Afegbua described Isibor’s outburst as a desperate move for relevance.
“Isibor’s comments are clearly self-serving. He is merely seeking attention and hoping the government will engage him,” Afegbua declared.
“But Governor Okpebholo is not wired for ‘chop-chop’ politics. Governance, for us, is about service, not self-enrichment.”
He urged Edo residents to disregard what he termed “baseless criticisms,” reiterating that the administration remains focused on delivering tangible development across the state.
