The Initiative for Youth Awareness on Migration, Immigration, Development and Reintegration (IYAMIDR) Nigeria has commended the Bayelsa State Governor for what it described as remarkable achievements in infrastructure, human capital development, healthcare and security, following an assessment visit to the state.
Executive Director of the organisation, Mr. Solomon Okoduwa, who addressed journalists after the visit on Friday in Yenagoa, said the group’s findings were based on firsthand observations and interactions with residents across parts of the state, stressing that the organisation only speaks on verifiable development.
Okoduwa said the delegation, which was conducted round the state capital by Apostle Alfred Uyinosa, observed significant improvements in road infrastructure, including dual carriageways fitted with solar-powered street lights, pedestrian walkways and security cameras, adding that the projects had enhanced safety and improved the quality of life of residents.
He also lauded the state’s investment in human capital development, citing activities at the Bayelsa State Institute of Vocational Training, where youths are acquiring practical skills to reduce unemployment and irregular migration.
He added that the construction of new Commissioners’ and Legislative Quarters reflected the government’s commitment to strengthening public institutions.
The IYAMIDR Executive Director further commended the administration’s healthcare innovations, particularly the deployment of drones for the delivery of medicines to riverine communities, describing the initiative as a life-saving intervention capable of improving access to healthcare in hard-to-reach areas.
According to Okoduwa, the delegation’s interactions with teachers, health workers, commercial tricycle operators and civil servants revealed widespread public satisfaction with the administration’s performance in health, education, infrastructure and security, despite what he described as the government’s low-key approach to publicising its achievements.
“What we saw in Bayelsa is intentional and strategic. Roads that connect people, not just places. Skills that create jobs, not just certificates. Health solutions that cross rivers, not just press releases. Security infrastructure that gives citizens back their night.
“This is the kind of leadership Nigeria needs if we must reduce the desperation that drives our youths into dangerous migration. We are not here to clap for politics. We are here to record what works so other states can copy it,” Okoduwa said.
He urged the governor to sustain the momentum, praying for divine wisdom, strength and protection to enable him complete ongoing projects, adding that Bayelsa’s development efforts should serve as a model for other states seeking sustainable and people-oriented governance.
