A support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the APC Diaspora Media Group, Edo State Chapter, has passed a vote of no confidence on the state chairman, Mr Jarret Tenebe, citing what it described as a worsening leadership crisis in the party.
The group, in an open letter dated April 21, 2026, and addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Working Committee (NWC), National Executive Committee (NEC), and Board of Trustees (BoT), called for urgent intervention to safeguard the party’s unity and electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The letter, jointly signed by the group’s General Coordinator, Hon. Taju Omoruyi; UK Director of Operations and Public Relations, Comrade Onaghise (J.P); Director of Administration, Finance and Logistics, Rita Egharevba; General Secretary, Dr. Alasa Braimoh; and Director of Media and Publicity, Eghosa Monday Ohuimumwen, expressed “profound concern for the unity, stability, and electoral future” of the party in Edo State.
According to the group, which claimed a membership strength of over 1,800 across several countries, unresolved internal tensions could undermine the APC’s chances in future elections if not urgently addressed.
The group alleged that recent comments credited to Tenebe, in which he reportedly stated that “the party would not give a ticket to serial losers,” were “reckless and highly disrespectful,” adding that the remark was widely perceived to be targeted at a former governorship candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
“We state categorically that Pastor Ize-Iyamu has not engaged in any conduct warranting such public ridicule and humiliation,” the group said.
It further alleged that the comment was part of a broader pattern of conduct by the chairman, accusing him of making “unguarded and disrespectful” remarks against senior party figures, including a former national chairman, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and Minister Abubakar Momoh.
The group also raised concerns over what it described as “inflammatory statements,” including alleged threats against some youths and the designation of certain individuals as persona non grata, warning that such actions could heighten political tensions within the state.
“Leadership demands restraint, wisdom, inclusiveness, and the ability to unify. The Edo chapter under the current chairman has become characterised by division, intimidation, and internal discord,” the group stated.
It called for Tenebe’s immediate suspension pending investigation, alleging imposition of candidates across the 18 local government areas, lack of stakeholder consultation, and a leadership style it described as “draconian, exclusionary, and counterproductive.”
“The current trajectory threatens to erode the goodwill, trust, and cohesion required to secure victory in future elections,” the group added.
However, when contacted, the Edo APC chairman, Mr Jarret Tenebe, dismissed the allegations, describing the group as “faceless.”
Tenebe said he did not refer to any particular individual as a “serial loser” during his interview with TVC, insisting that anyone who chose to associate the remark with themselves was free to do so.
“I did not mention any name. Anyone who feels concerned can take it personally,” he said.
