The Benin Writers Society has extended its warm congratulations to Hon. Chris Okaeben, who was recently sworn in as the Edo State Commissioner for Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, coinciding with his birthday on December 25, 2025.
His appointment is seen as a testament to his unwavering dedication to cultural development and creative excellence.
His appointment promises to bring fresh energy to the state’s cultural sector and foster opportunities for creatives across Edo.
In a statement, the society’s provost/Director of Protocol, Ambassador Nosa Onaghise
emphasized the importance of culture in national identity.
The society believes that under Hon. Okaeben’s leadership, Edo State will continue to celebrate its rich artistic heritage while embracing new avenues for creative expression.
They expressed their enthusiasm for potential collaborations, particularly with partners like Naija Poetry Fest, to reignite the annual festival of words, “The Battle of Stanzas”, a cherished event traditionally held every August.
As the statement continued: “Art is not a mirror held up to reality, but a hammer with which to shape it.”
Additionally, the society extended heartfelt birthday wishes to the commissioner, wishing him continued wisdom, strength, and fulfillment in the coming year as he leads the charge in promoting arts and culture in Edo State.
