There was mild drama Sunday morning at the popular Ologbo park by Agip filling station along Sapele road in Benin City, the Edo state Capital when a popular Evangelical known as Pastor Evidence threw caution into the wind and chased away a colleague pastor who came to preach to passengers travelling from Benin to Warri, in Delta State.
It is a common practice in most motor parks in Benin where preachers often offer prayers to passengers before they embarked on their journey.
In return they solicited for financial assistance to support their evangelical work. They sometimes give out free literatures to passengers.
But for Pastor Evidence Sunday morning turned out to be a bad day for him when another Pastor unknowingly arrived to the park said to be the sole Pastor preaching there for years.
However in a shocking rage, and in the full glare of passengers, conductors and passersby Pastor Evidence in a loud voice ordered his colleague to leave the park claiming the exclusive preaching right to the park.
The development which angered some of the bus drivers as they came in their number in defence of Pastor against Pastor Evidence.
The incident caused commotion among drivers as they were divided over the action of the pastor. While some supported the action of the pastor others condemned him. They accused him of greed and being hostile to a fellow preacher.
A traveller who witnessed the drama criticized Pastor Evidence suggesting that his actions exemplify the commercialisation of faith.
He said “This is shameful that a so called man of God can do this to a fellow pastor. Is it because of the little offering from passengers? His action further speak to the commercialisation of the word of God by fake pastor.
