No fewer than 800 secondary school students from Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode Federal Constituency, Edo State, are set to benefit from a free external examinations registration scheme rolled out by the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dr. Billy Adesuwa Osawaru.
The education intervention covers 600 candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO), as well as 200 candidates for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Speaking on the initiative on Sunday, Osawaru said the programme was designed to reduce the growing financial burden on parents and guardians, particularly those from indigent households, while ensuring that no qualified student is denied access to education due to cost.
He said, “Education remains the most sustainable investment in our future. This initiative is about giving our young people a fair chance to pursue their academic dreams, regardless of their financial background.”
He described the scheme as part of his broader commitment to human capital development and inclusive governance within the constituency.
“By supporting 800 students across Orhionmwon and Uhunmwode, we are deliberately strengthening the foundation for long-term development. When we empower our children, we empower our communities,” he added.
He explained that under the programme, eligible senior secondary school students are required to submit their details at the Hon. Billy Osawaru Federal Constituency Office, located at Iguobviobo Community, Benin–Auchi Expressway, Uhunmwode Local Government Area, for processing and verification.
He called on parents and guardians to take advantage of the opportunity, which he noted comes amid rising examination registration fees nationwide.
The lawmaker reaffirmed his resolve to continue implementing people-oriented programmes aimed at improving welfare, expanding access to education, and securing better future prospects for constituents.
