Following his emergence as the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for the Edo South Senatorial District, Aguebor Sunday Izuhunwa-Toscar has unveiled a comprehensive legislative agenda aimed at transforming the seven local government areas in the district through enhanced federal engagement, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment.
Speaking after being declared the winner of the party’s primary election by the NDC headquarters in Abuja, Aguebor pledged to pursue policies that would strengthen the federal government’s presence in Edo South and create economic opportunities for young people if elected in the 2027 general elections.
“I am in this race not with empty promises but with a business model that has worked in Japan and other parts of the world,” Aguebor said. “I will teach Edo South people how to fish, not merely give them fish.”
A key component of his agenda is the rehabilitation of critical road networks across Edo South, particularly inter-community roads that have long hampered economic activities, isolated rural communities, and restricted access to markets for farmers and traders.
Aguebor said he would work closely with the Federal Ministry of Works and the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to attract budgetary allocations and accelerate the execution of road projects across the district.
“Roads are not luxuries; they are economic tools,” he said. “Poor road networks increase transportation costs for farmers, isolate communities from healthcare services, and limit opportunities for young people. We must change that.”
To address water supply challenges, the senatorial candidate promised to partner with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and international development agencies to implement community-based water projects. These projects, he said, would include the construction of boreholes, water treatment facilities, and hand-pump maintenance programmes managed by local water committees.
On economic development and job creation, Aguebor outlined plans to connect unemployed youths with entrepreneurship programmes of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), federal skills acquisition initiatives, and technology-driven innovation hubs.
He also pledged to establish a dedicated constituency empowerment office that would serve as a centre for vocational training, employment opportunities, business support services, and grant application assistance for residents of the district.
He commended the NDC leadership for the safe conduct of the party primaries, which he said was in accordance with the Electoral Act and the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Edo South Senatorial election is scheduled for January 16, 2027.
