A political pressure group, Edo Progressives for Good Governance (EPGG), has declared that Osagie Ize-Iyamu remains focused on strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, distancing himself from comments capable of creating division within the party.
The group, in a statement signed by Hon. Elder George Edosawman and Hon. Wellington Aghedo, said Ize-Iyamu is “not interested in sound bites that tend to divide the APC family,” but is instead committed to unity, growth, and electoral success ahead of future contests, particularly in Edo South Senatorial District.
Reacting to recent remarks credited to the Edo APC Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, the group described the “serial losers” comment as unfortunate and counterproductive, noting that such rhetoric risks alienating loyal party stakeholders who have contributed significantly to the party’s development over the years.
The statement emphasized that Ize-Iyamu remains “the most colourful and widely accepted politician in Edo State,” with a political structure that cuts across party lines and grassroots communities.
According to the group, “his political capital has benefited countless aspirants and office holders who have leveraged his network to secure victories at various levels.”
EPGG further argued that Ize-Iyamu’s consistent relevance in Edo politics is rooted in his ability to mobilize voters, maintain party cohesion, and sustain engagement even outside election cycles.
“He has remained on ground, building bridges, funding party activities, and supporting candidates. That is the mark of a dependable leader,” the statement added.
The group maintained that rather than diminish his standing, Ize-Iyamu’s past electoral experiences have strengthened his appeal and strategic depth.
Citing global and national precedents, it noted that “electoral setbacks are part of democratic evolution and not a measure of incompetence or rejection.”
On the question of Edo South Senatorial representation, EPGG declared Ize-Iyamu the most suitable candidate, stressing that his name recognition, political reach, and goodwill across the district position him ahead of other contenders.
“If APC is serious about winning and consolidating its base, then it must rely on tested and trusted leaders like Pastor Ize-Iyamu,” the group stated.
While reaffirming support for the broader ambitions of the party and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the group called for restraint in public commentary among party leaders.
“Victory is built on unity, not division. We urge party leadership to avoid statements that demoralize committed members and instead foster inclusion as we move forward,”.
