The All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Oredo Federal Constituency in the 2027 election, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, has described the late Captain Hosa Okunbo as a patriot whose bold investments, philanthropic activities and commitment to youth development left an indelible mark on Nigeria and beyond.
Iyamu spoke at a gathering of government functionaries, business leaders and prominent personalities in Lagos to commemorate the life and legacy of the late Okunbo, a renowned entrepreneur, philanthropist and nation-builder.
The event, held at the National Theatre, Surulere, attracted notable personalities from government, the private sector and the international community, who paid tribute to the late businessman and reflected on his contributions to national development.
The keynote address was delivered by former President of Liberia and Africa’s first elected female president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who spoke on faith, hope and the enduring value of a life dedicated to making a positive impact on society.
According to Iyamu, Okunbo’s life was defined by purpose, service and a deep commitment to empowering others. He said the late businessman distinguished himself by building people, creating opportunities and giving back to society.
“Capt. Hosa Okunbo lived a life of purpose. He believed in building people, creating opportunities, and giving back to society. His legacy of service and excellence will continue to inspire generations,” Iyamu said.
He added that Okunbo’s influence extended across aviation, maritime, oil and gas, hospitality and philanthropy, while his investments, charitable works and youth-focused initiatives contributed significantly to economic growth, job creation and community development.
Several dignitaries, including the Ogun State Governor, Edo State Deputy Governor, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the Edo State Secretary to the State Government, members of the National Assembly, business leaders and NNPC executives, also paid tributes to the Okunbo family and prayed for continued unity, wisdom and strength for the family.
