The member representing Marcus Onobun in the House of Representatives, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency seat ahead of the next general election.
Onobun secured the party’s ticket to seek reelection for a second term after polling 6,897 votes in the keenly contested exercise.
His closest challenger, Mr. Paul Ogedegbe, garnered 3,738 votes to place second, while Mr. Mathias Ehizua came third with 2,446 votes.
Mr. Lucky Esegbe, who was widely rumoured to be the preferred consensus candidate allegedly backed by Monday Okpebholo, finished fourth in the contest.
The outcome of the primary election was viewed by party faithful and observers as a rejection of alleged imposition within the party, as Onobun maintained a commanding lead throughout the collation process.
Observers noted that the margin of victory underscored the lawmaker’s strong grassroots support across the constituency, with the result becoming evident long before the final announcement was made.
