Senator Imasuen Brightens Edo South with Over 800 Solar Street Lights
Residents of Edo South Senatorial District are experiencing improved security and night-time visibility, thanks to the ongoing installation of solar-powered street lights by Senator Neda Imasuen as part of his constituency projects.
The lawmaker, who represents Edo South in the National Assembly, has embarked on the ambitious project to light up streets, communities, and key areas across the seven local government areas that make up the district.
According to a statement from the Senator’s office, “The solar street light initiative aims to not only address the challenges of poor visibility at night but also to enhance community safety, encourage nightlife, and promote the use of clean, renewable energy”.
Some of the areas that have already benefited from the project include Benson Idahosa Street, Ediaken; Okpame Street with 20 installed units; Osunde Street in G.R.A with 15 units; Aghedo Street, which received 26 units; and Utekon Community where 20 units were installed.
Other locations include Ugoneki Community (13 units), Aso Rock/Osasere Street (29 units), Umulua in Igbanke (29 units), and Amagba Community (13 units). In Ihogbe, 38 solar street lights have been installed, including 9 units at Chief Ihama’s Palace.
Additionally, 30 solar street lights were installed in communities such as Ogua, Igoumo, Ikhueniro, Azagba, Eyean, and Aduwawa along NTA Road. Other notable installations include Egba Market Road, Philip Ediagbonya Street, Igbanke East, Osayogie Street in Oluku, Iyobosa Street in BTC, and Neda Imasuen Street in Amagba.
Speaking during an inspection tour of some completed sites, Senator Imasuen expressed satisfaction with the pace of the project, emphasizing that the initiative is part of his broader commitment to community development, safety, and the promotion of sustainable energy.
“Lighting up our streets is not just about visibility; it’s about giving our people the confidence to move around freely at night, enhancing local commerce, and contributing to safer communities,” he said.
Residents and community leaders have lauded the Senator’s intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. Mrs. Grace Ighodaro, a resident of Ugoneki Community, noted that the installation of the solar lights has significantly reduced incidents of petty theft and made night activities safer.
The project is expected to continue, with plans underway to extend the installation to other underserved areas within the district.
