Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has commenced the rehabilitation and repair of failed sections of roads within the Government Reservation Area (GRA) and other parts of the state as part of efforts to improve road infrastructure.
The intervention is under the “Operation Zero Potholes” initiative announced by the governor during the commissioning of earth-moving equipment procured for the Edo State Road Maintenance Agency (EDROMA).
Managing Director of EDROMA, Engr. Felix Ibhade, disclosed this in an interview, noting that the agency had already begun palliative works on several roads despite the ongoing rainy season.
According to him, repair works are currently ongoing in the GRA and other parts of Benin City, including Ihama Road, Freedom Way Junction and Enadeghe Junction, while palliative measures have been carried out on Sakponba Road.
“Governor Okpebholo gave us a clear mandate to tackle the poor state of roads across Edo State. He directed that all roads should be free of potholes within the next two to three years, beginning with the GRA axis where there have been numerous complaints, particularly around Five Junction,” Ibhade said.
He assured residents that the agency was adhering strictly to engineering specifications to ensure durability of the repairs.
“We excavate damaged portions, apply the necessary treatment and prime the roads to prevent rainwater from washing them away. What we are doing is different from previous maintenance works because the management team is made up of engineers committed to delivering quality jobs that will stand the test of time,” he added.
Ibhade appealed to Edo residents to be patient with the government, assuring them that road rehabilitation efforts would be expanded significantly during the dry season.
He further pledged that the agency would not disappoint the people of Edo State or the administration of Governor Okpebholo in delivering improved road infrastructure across the state.
